NEW and FORMER PLAYERS
At the last game at Woodville, we welcomed a new player JEAN YOUNGMAN. JEAN was invited along by MARGARET KAIN. I believe she plays golf with the Ladies at Fox Hill. We hope she enjoyed the day out with the DOOLEYS golfers and will continue to play with us and entice some of her friends to come along and join us. Welcome JEAN and we hope to see you again soon.
At Woodville we welcomed back JAMES MILLER who has not played with us since playing his one hundred (100) game with us in February 2017. Welcome back JAMES and we hope you can return as a regular golfer with the DOOLEYS Social Golf Club If you return your old Golf Badge we will give you a new Badge with a 100 games bar attached. Glad to see you once again JAMES and we hope you continue to play with us.
PAR GOLF AGAIN
Last month we commented upon JACOB PEMBLE having a par round at Sefton playing off a handicap of 4. SEFTON is a par 54 whereas WOODVILLE is a par 72. JACOB with a 4 under his handicap at Sefton finished in 21st place.
Well at his very next game with us at Woodville he has done it again on a much harder and difficult course. SEFTON is a par 54 whereas WOODVILLE is a par 72. JACOB with a 4 under his handicap at Sefton finished in 21st place. However, with his 4 under his handicap at a more difficult course he has finished third on a countback. Well done and congratulations JACOB. The handicapper may not be so lenient this time.

THE COVID – 19 VIRUS
I hope everyone has survived the lockdown and no one has suffered any medical episodes because of it. It was a stressful period from 22nd March to the 1st June to be in lockdown. I realise that most of our Golfers are retired but there are those who are not so senior and may be out of work and are dependent upon either the Job Keeper or Job Seeker allowance. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are in such a predicament.
YES WE ARE BACK
With the easing of some restriction’s we are now able to play Social Golf. However, DOOLEYS Intra Club activities will not resume again this year. Please see Update regarding Intra Club activities enclosed.
This means that we are unable to receive Eftpos Vouchers or financial support from the club. We are also unable to play for our Perpetual Trophies.
However, we are allowed to play Social Golf while the restrictions are lifted. Prizes and golf balls will come from the Green Fees charged on the day.

SICK LIST
Two former players have been on the sick list but we can report that they are on the way to recovery.
JOHN COLEMAN suffered another heart attack a few weeks ago. Things looked grim at one stage, but within days and in typical COLEMAN fashion he made a remarkable recovery and returned home to fight another day.
ADAM PEMBLE recently has had surgery to remove a polyp that was cancerous. A biopsy has shown that the cancer was completely removed and no further treatment is required.
Our thoughts and prayers are with JOHN and ADAM and we wish them continued good health and years of good cheer.
WEEKEND OF GOLF
Due to the continuing uncertainty with unpredictable coronavirus it has been decided to CANCEL this year’s WEEKEND of GOLF. We are sorry but we have had to cancel the thirty-fifth (35) trip due to Covid-19. This is the only cancellation we have had and as far as I can recall we have only had to cancel Golf on the Sunday twice due to wet weather.
We are truly sorry but the welfare of players attending is our main concern. We do have a lot of the attendees who are 70 years or more and they are the most susceptible to this virus. As I said WE ARE DEEPLY SORRY FOR THE CANCELLATION. Myself and Beth would not be attending.
The motel requires confirmation of our booking on the 27th July. They do have enquires from other groups wishing to stay for this weekend. The Golf Professional is understanding of our predicament and only requires confirmation a fortnight before we are due to play.
If there is anyone who still wishes to have their Weekend of Golf they are most welcomed to do so. However, they will have to arrange their own accommodation with the motel (Ph. 4422 4522) and Golf Bookings with the pro (Ph. 4421 7430). There are hit-off times available on Saturday morning from first light until 7.00 am and after 11.00 am.

JOKE CORNER
GOODBYE MUM
A young man shopping in a supermarket noticed a little old lady following him around. If he stopped, she stopped. Furthermore, she kept staring at him.
She finally overtook him at the checkout, and she turned to him and said, ‘’I hope I haven’t made you feel ill at ease; it’s just that you look so much like my late son.”
He answered, “That’s okay.”
“I know it’s silly, but if you’d call out “Good bye Mum” as I leave the store, It would make me feel so happy.”
She then went through the checkout, and as she was on her way out of the store, the man called out.
“Goodbye, Mum.”
The little old lady waved, and smiled back at him.
Pleased that he had brought a little sunshine into someone’s day, he went to pay for his Groceries.
“That comes to $121.85,” said the clerk.
“How come so much … I only bought 5 items.”
The clerk replied, “Yeah, but your Mother said.”
“You’d be paying for her things, too.”
Dear Sports Council Delegates,
RE: UPDATE REGARDING INTRA CLUB ACTIVITIES
We hope you are keeping safe and healthy during this unique and challenging time.
As you are aware, DOOLEYS venues reopened from 1st June. We are currently operating with a number of restrictions in place regarding capacity limits, hygiene and social distancing measures.
We understand many of you are keen to resume your Intra Club activities and learn more information about when this might be possible.
We are writing to provide you with the following update regarding current circumstances:
- Competitive Intra Club activities will not resume again this year. There may be some capacity for social activities to be undertaken later in the year however this is yet to be determined by DOOLEYS Management.
- Due to the current restrictions regarding functions and required social distancing, the 2020 Mini Olympics has been cancelled.
- The Sports Awards Presentation Evening scheduled for February 2021 has also been cancelled.
- The Sports Council meeting scheduled for Thursday 20 August at 7.30pm will go ahead at this stage however we will keep you updated and provide further details as we get closer to that date.
We thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as we navigate our way through these changes to our ‘business as usual’.
Should you have any questions, or wish to discuss any matters in further detail, please do not hesitate to contact Julie Milsom any time on 8745 6137 or via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
